What is Pirate Brands?

Pirate Brands has been creating deliciously baked snack treasures since 1987. Pirate Brands was founded on the belief that you shouldn’t have to “snackrifice” taste and fun for products made with goodness. Pirate’s Booty, Smart Puffs and Original Tings, which we refer to as Pirate Brands’ “snack products,” are free from fryers and ingredients you can’t pronounce . . . Arrr!

Pirate Brands also recently introduced Pirate’s Booty Mac & Cheese.

Does Pirate Brands offer any products with only non-GM ingredients?

Yes, Pirate Brands recently began offering Pirate's Booty, Smart Puffs and Original Tings products that are Non-GMO Project Verified. Currently, these products can be found at select retailers. To identify them, look for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on the front of the package. Our other Pirate's Booty, Smart Puffs and Original Tings snack products contain ingredients that may have been genetically modified.

Does Pirate Brands have a position on the use of genetically modified (GM) ingredients?

We understand that some consumers have questions about genetically modified (GM) food ingredients. Many consumers do not understand that the vast majority of all food crops have been genetically modified and that bioengineering technology is only one of a number of technologies used to genetically modify crops. Currently, the majority of food crops grown in the U.S. have some bioengineering. For example, more than 85% of corn (the key ingredient in our products) is bioengineered.

Providing consumers with safe products is our number one priority. Many of the most influential regulatory agencies and organizations in the world that study the safety of the food supply, including the U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the American Medical Association, the World Health Organization, Health Canada, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the National Academy of Sciences, have found that GM food ingredients are safe and that there are no negative health effects associated with their use.

We appreciate, however, that some consumers may want additional choices. Therefore, we recently began offering Pirate's Booty, Smart Puffs and Original Tings products that are Non-GMO Project Verified. Currently, these products can be found at select retailers. To identify them, look for the Non-GMO Project Verified seal on the front of the package.

Our other Pirate's Booty, Smart Puffs and Original Tings snack products contain ingredients that may have been genetically modified.
